The State of Japanese Entrepreneurship - debate led by Hugh Purser

Please see article on "Japaneurship"

With a rapidly aging population, changes to lifetime employment practices, and continuing economic uncertainties, Japan needs to look to new sources of economic growth and a better use of productive resources. More entrepreneurial activity may hold the key. This article looks at the state of entrepreneurship in Japan today, and learns that a group of Japanese entrepreneurs in the UK may hold hope for the future.

The quality of Contemporary Japanese Management - debate led by Louis Turner

Please see presentation "Thoughts on weaknesses in Japanese Corporate Strategy"

We know that Japanese companies have evolved a lot since 1990, but it is still not clear to outside observers just how great this change has been. There are arguments that a new hybrid management is emerging in Japan, joining the best of Japanese and Western management - and it could be that a firm such as Toyota demonstrates this. On the other hand, there are westerners who argue that even the best Japanese companies are following strategies which are very different from those recommended by mainstream business schools.
