UK TRADE & INVESTMENT SEMINAR MISSION TO GUANGZHOU & WUHAN, CHINA
23 to 27 February 2009
Deadline for Applications: 17 December 2008

British Expertise is managing this Seminar Mission on behalf the UKTI Power Sector Team.

Achieving energy efficiency and carbon reduction is one of the key issues facing the Chinese Government today. China’s stunning economic growth over the past thirty years has been built on high infrastructure development and massive scale low cost manufacturing, both consuming huge amounts of energy. However such high-energy consumption now threatens the next stage in China’s economic development, the transition to a higher value added manufacturing and service sector based economy.

The Government of China has accepted the need to adopt radical energy saving measures, and has set ambitious energy saving targets, which all cities (and major industries) in China are required to meet. Against this backdrop one priority is to understand and address carbon abatement within the country and to adopt best practice to reduce emissions and pollution within the power sector and more widely within the industrial and manufacturing sectors.  The emphasis will be on clean coal technology, co-firing with biomass, retrofitting both power station and industrial plant, all forms of pollution control and the contribution that renewable energy technologies can bring.

UK Trade & Investment has contracted with British Expertise to deliver seminars in Guangzhou and Wuhan to demonstrate the depth of expertise available to support various China Carbon Abatement initiatives.
UK Trade & Investment is looking to take 6 – 8 companies with unique expertise to speak on a range of topics including:

  1. Clean Coal Technology
  2. Coal Gasification
  3. All forms of pollution control
  4. Renewable energy
  5. Co-Firing with biomass
  6. Retrofitting
  7. Carbon Capture and Storage

If you are interested in speaking about these or allied topics, please indicate your wish to take part and complete the attached application form and return it by 17 December 2008. A group programme outside the seminar will be arranged where possible.
We recommend that you prepare for your visit by identifying and contacting potential business partners before you arrive. UKTI staff in the British Embassy in Beijing and the British Consulate in Guangzhou can undertake specific targeted research on your behalf as part of our Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS). They can provide fully verified or warmed lists of business contacts, with background information, and help arrange meetings. The cost will be agreed in advance of the work. For more information, please contact Rachel Huang at Rachel.huang@fco.gov.uk

Funding Arrangements
UK Trade & Investment will fund all group costs associated with the seminar mission, including organisation of the seminar, mission brochure, receptions and group meetings.
There is no mission management fee.
