The Energy using Products (EuP) Directive (2005/32/IEC) entered force in the UK on 11 August 2007. The Directive aims to greatly reduce the emissions and environmental impact of energy using products. Currently specific proposals for regulation of product sectors from lighting to external power supplies and pan-product regulation standby losses are now being discussed, making the introduction of regulations increasingly likely for 2008. The impact of EuP is primarily on the design phase of products, as it is considered that this is the determining stage affecting the resources used in a product. The design stage needs to be considered well in advance of any requirements since design change can take a long time. Exercises and interaction are used throughout the course to help delegates understand the concepts, techniques and issues involved.
