UK Trade & Investment and the Asia Pacific  Technology Network are launching a “Japan/UK Life  Science Seminar Series”.  These quarterly seminars will provide an opportunity for UK  and Japanese companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology  and healthcare sectors to network, develop commercial ties and understand one another’s markets better.

Who should attend?  

David Fisher
David is a graduate of Glasgow University. Since graduating in 1980 he has spent virtually his entire career in the Pharmaceutical Industry. His roles have encompassed a wide variety of business management  responsibilities, working for a range of multinational companies such as Ciba-Geigy (now part of Novartis), Pfizer, and the Sanofi group. In the last 10 years he has held various Board level positions in both the US and the UK. David began his current role at ABPI two years ago. Within the association his main responsibilities include pricing and reimbursement and access to medicines.

Jeremy Hill
Jeremy writes: 1975 - present working for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. I have had overseas postings in Japan, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Yemen and South Korea where I have covered a wide -range of functions including Commercial, Consular and Management jobs. I have also had a series of jobs in the FCO in London in between my overseas postings.This is my second posting to Japan, I was first here from 1979 - 1981 and this time I have been here since August 2006, although I started my current job in April 2007 after a period of refresher language training. I expect to be here until April 2012.

Dr Anastasia Liapi
Anastasia Liapi is Director of Business Development at Astellas Pharma Europe. Astellas is a Japanese pharmaceutical company with flagship products in the areas of transplantation and urology, and a growing portfolio in dermatology and infectious diseases. As the company is expanding its presence in new therapeutic areas, Anastasia is focusing her partnering activities in the fields of CNS/pain, CV and GI disorders. Prior to Astellas, Anastasia was Business Development Manager at Eisai, another Japanese pharmaceutical company with international presence, where she was responsible for in-licensing, alliance management and commercial evaluations. Anastasia’s past posts include operating as Technology Analyst at London Technology Network, where she facilitated interactions between KOL and Pharma companies, and postdoctoral researcher in neuroscience at UCL. Anastasia has a 1st Class Honours Degree in Molecular Biology from Queen Mary University and a PhD in Neurobiology from UCL. 

Anil Vaidya
UKTI Sector Specialist: Biotechnology and Healthcare. Anil Vaidya is a part time consultant to the government department UK Trade & Investment and is responsible for advising companies and government on commercial developments in the biotechnology and healthcare sectors in the Far East and Asia Pacific markets. He is a Japanese specialist with experience of also working and setting up companies in the UK, USA and India. Anil has lead a number of high-level business delegations overseas as well as having facilitated in a number of commercial developments between the UK and Japan. Anil is also the CEO and founder of Iatro Medical Systems Ltd, a medical imaging core lab company.
