Background:
The major Asian industrial powers, such as Japan, China and Korea, are now major players in sectors such as mobile communications, the use of broadband and online gaming. At the same time, Japanese visual culture (manga, anime etc) is becoming increasingly influential. Within the film and pop scenes, the Indians (Bollywood), Koreans (pop music) and Chinese are also challenging the hegemony of western media powers.
Within the world of content for the digital world, is the centre of gravity moving Eastwards towards these Asian challengers? ....or are there many centres? What is the role of national production? Is it actually irrelevant to talk of centres of production any longer?
This is the third in the joint seminar series between the Asia Pacific Technology Network and the International Institute of Communications.
Active involvement of representatives of the Asian media sector:
We are actively looking for representatives of the Asian media sector to invite to this seminar. We are interested in receiving recommendations of British-based representatives of the Asian broadcasting, games, music, movie and other artistic worlds. Please email recommendations (with contact details) to me on louist@aptn.org .
